One for the Monk - Old Monk

For accessing quality CAT tests login to www.mymbaprep.com and for guidance and discussing your doubts with IIM mentors login to www.careerinfoline.com.

That squat dark oddly-shaped bottle. That funny fat bald old man in a robe beaming at you. What is the magic of Old Monk that never dies? What is the basis of the unquestioning faith that the Old Monk drinker reposes in the brand? What is the source of the extreme brand loyalty it generates? After all, there are millions of men who start their hard liquor life with Old Monk and never drink anything else till the day they die.
The facts, for the record. Old Monk is a dark rum blended and aged for seven years (though there is also a more expensive 12-year-old version, the Old Monk Gold Reserve). It has an alcohol content of 42.8 per cent and is produced by Mohan Meakin, based in Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. It is the third largest-selling rum in the world, and has been the biggest Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) brand for decades. Old Monk is the only spirits brand to figure in advertising guru Ian Batley’s list of potential Great Indian Brands, which could tap the world market. Suzuki Motor Corporation Chairman Osamu Suzuki is a connoisseur of wines. In his personal dining room and bar where he entertains his guests, there is a bottle of what he believes is the best liquor brand from each of the 192 countries the company operates in. India is represented by Old Monk.

But Old Monk enthusiasts couldn’t be less bothered with the numbers. For them this rum is more than just a drink. It is a close friend, a confidant, a keeper of memories. With every sip that you take, incidents come flooding back. The first time one got sloshed and got caught by the hostel warden. The first time one confessed one’s love but to the wrong girl in a moment of drunken recklessness. And finally the heartbreak when nothing but Old Monk could soothe the pain. Nostalgia is definitely something that Old Monk brings. Even if you are rich now, and only drink Scotch or wine, you retain a special affection for the brand.
The sense of kinship that comes with being an Old Monk drinker is legendary. There are tales galore about how strangers became fast friends over a glass of Old Monk. Mention Old Monk or “budha sadhu” (as he lovingly calls it), and Aditya Dhar, manager-training with American Express, and memories of the good times he spent with his friends crowd his head. “I can never forget this one cold January evening that we spent at a friend Neil’s place. We kept on drinking and Neil continued to strum the guitar till his fingers bled. But did he stop? No, not at all. Old Monk was the only remedy required and he played every single song in the book,” reminisces Aditya.

Glenn Satur, one of Internet’s unknown poets, puts it thus: “You’ve brought feeling to our lives, at moments of desperation. For most of us, you have been our mentor and our inspiration. We don’t give up on things, even if we think our lives have sunk. There’s always a solution to a problem when we have you dear Old Monk Rum!”
Arijit Ganguly, team leader with Royal Bank of Scotland, shares his story about a friend who just couldn’t take the freezing cold of Himachal Pradesh. “We were in Chail and we had to change buses. It was freaking cold and we found to our consternation that the bus would arrive only after an hour,” he recalls. One of his friends was so cold that even three trousers and countless number of sweaters couldn’t keep him warm. “Suddenly he took out a bottle of Old Monk and gulped down 100 ml of it in one shot. Within 15 minutes, his eyes and ears had turned red and soon he was found singing ‘My balls are on fire’ in a mere sweatshirt and jeans.”
Perhaps another thing that works for the Monk is also the sense of reassurance that one gets on seeing the signature design that hasn’t changed a bit in years. It is a soothing thought that in this ever changing world, one has something constant to hold on to. Of course, the fact that quality has never faltered helps. Then there’s the distinctive taste, different from every other rum in the world. Anyone who has ever had Old Monk will recognise the taste in any blind test.
When drinking with Old Monk enthusiasts, one has to adhere to the proper etiquette. One cannot say, “I am having a glass of rum,” when you are having Old Monk. Old Monk is not a rum. Old Monk is Old Monk. It is utter sacrilege to drag this priceless drink into the category of regular unexciting rums. You need to feel the pride, the proper respect, the honour when you hold a glass of Old Monk.
There is something about Old Monk that makes you feel all-powerful, that you have the strength to take on the whole world. A friend, Arindita Gogoi, could muster up the guts to tell her mother that she drinks only after she had had a few sips of Old Monk: “I was in Delhi, having Old Monk with a friend on a chilly December evening when my mom called from Assam. When she asked me what I was doing I told her very emotionally that, ‘Maa, it is very chilly here and nothing but a dark rum could save us.’” Her mother hung up. But to this day, Arindita continues with her unfettered fealty to this amazing drink, in spite of her mother’s displeasure. “You don’t feel stylish with Old Monk. It just makes you feel more rustic and grounded,” says Arindita.
However, Old Monk hasn’t been without its own share of heated debates. The one that has been plaguing its fans since eternity, or well since cola companies took over the world, is what is the best way to have this drink. With cola or hot water? On the Old Monk Appreciation Society page on Facebook, enthusiasts discuss such topics with a vengeance.
While some suggest having it with three-fourths Coke, topping it off with two cubes of ice, others consider the use of cola sheer blasphemy. It’s hot water or nothing at all.
While legions of fans argue on Facebook, Vikram Gour and Chaitanya Chadha sit back and watch as their creation achieve all that they had envisaged for it. When they created this society on Facebook, they wanted to find like-minded people who shared their love. And they weren’t disappointed. People from all across the world answered their call. Today, the society boasts of 1,100 members.
Some of the overseas fans have even been able to sniff out Old Monk vendors in the backlanes of their cities. “A fellow group member, Jeet Singh, based in New York, joined this group because he had had Old Monk many years ago. The thought of enjoying this drink again led him on a hunt through New York where he actually managed to find a bottle! Imagine that!” says Vikram.
If you go looking, you will be able to unearth countless anecdotes related to the Monk, most of them bordering on the insane and bizarre. Our favourite is the one about the drunken cockroach posted by director Shekhar Kapur on his blog. Remember the scene from Mr India in which Sridevi jumps on to the bed in alarm when she spies a cockroach? Did anyone notice how the cockroach was so well behaved throughout the scene? ‘Well, I needed the cockroach to be very still for the camera as he/she eyed Sridevi threateningly. Focusing takes a long time and the cockroach needed to be patient. So we got the cockroach drunk!! No kidding, we surrounded the cockroach in a pool of my favourite Old Monk Rum and it was soon lolling around like a drunken sailor, giving in to director of photography Baba Azmi’s every demand. Unbelievable, but hey, talk to anyone on the sets. It was true!’ We believe you, Shekhar.
So what is it about the budha sadhu? We believe that the subconscious reason for the way the fan thinks of the brand is that Old Monk never tries. It is a rum with no frills, no add-ons, no come-hither branding and advertising. It’s just a damn good rum and it wants to be treated with the respect that a good friend deserves. That is its only demand from you. It is totally no-nonsense. Thus, there is something pure and trustworthy about it. It has always wanted to be just a tasty rum, and by focusing on that, has transcended liquor and become something else. Completely.

Tech Mahindra Interview Experience

www.careerinfoline.com is a mentorship forum, where one can get access to professionals from various domains. Also visit to see more interview experience, interview questions and placement papers.

Thanks to CareerInfoline and it’s a matter of pleasure for me to share my experience with all those who are willing to get into Tech Mahindra.

I recently got a job offer from Tech Mahindra and in this write-up I will discuss my interview experience with all the readers of this blog.
The interview process had two rounds of interviews. A Technical and a H.R round, though I feel that their intention was to test a person’s IQ level and more importantly communication skills.
Let me begin by detailing you about the Technical Interview experience
After a long wait, a person shouted my name and so it was time for my technical interview of Tech Mahindra. I was excited as well as a bit nervous. I entered the room and politely requested for the Interviewer’s permission to be seated. With the certificate file in my hand, I was a bit confused as to where to keep it. Should I take the liberty of putting it in front of him on the table or to keep it on my lap and let him ask for it. I choose the latter of the two not willing to show any dare-devilry over here.

Before I could get comfortable with the surroundings, the first question was shot to me. Introduce Yourself? This was how I had expected my interview to begin. With well prepared speech I began though constantly focusing that the interviewer must not feel that I had mugged up all that I was blurting out. I had heard it from many people that a well prepared introduction with clearly emphasized focus points can play the trick of turning the interview in your preferred direction.

A few words of my introduction picked became the focus area and those words luckily were Electronics & Communication. With these two words started the Matrix like action sequence where the Interviewer was shooting questions and I was trying to fend them off.
1.    What is the difference between Electronics & Communication
2.    What is the difference between Instrumentation & Communication
3.    Write a C program to swap two numbers without using the third variable?
4.    One candle completely burns in 60mins. How can u burn it in 30 mins?
5.    There are 3 containers of 8ml, 5ml and 3ml capacity respectively without any marks on them. 8ml container is filled with milk. Divide milk in 8ml and 5ml container each having 4ml of milk?

Luckily I was able to answer most of the problems though the basic differences between Electronics, Communication and Instrumentation had put me in a spot.

After this, the interviewer started with a series of personal questions which too were from the few words I uttered in my Introduction.
1.      You like to read novels, so what kind of novels do you read?
2.      Name the authors of the novels that you have read?
3.      You said you want to be a responsible citizen of your country, what u exactly want to do?

Till this time I was able to manage my answers well and then, a googly was thrown at me
4.      What are your strengths?

I had prepared well about my strengths, but this is one of the weak links of everyone’s interview. I hoped that the interviewer doesn’t delve too deep into my strengths. I spoke of my two strengths with caution “Sir, I’m industrious and I can teach”.
The interviewer followed soon “What do you mean when you say you are industrious?” With more caution, I gathered strength to answer this one hoping that the cross questioning stops then and there. “Sir, I’m hard working and energetic”. Interviewer went a step ahead “How can you say that?” I replied “Sir, I take part time tuitions after my college hours and then too my academic performance is up to the mark. So you can make out that I am industrious”. Luckily it ended here and we went ahead to the next set of questions.

5.      If you have to work on tight & hectic schedule. How will you manage?
6.      Have you ever lived away from you home and family members?
7.      How will u manage to work in distant places away from your home?
The answer to this question was the high point of my interview. I politely said “Sir, technology has really made world to shrink. One can communicate with their loved ones anywhere, anytime. I don’t see any problem staying away from home. As a matter of fact my home is just a phone call away”
I could recognize that smile on his face which made me doubly sure that I had impressed him. So the interviewer was done with me and asked me if I had any questions. I promptly asked the following questions.
1.      What about Tech Mahindra impressed you the most?
2.      What qualities do you try to find while recruiting freshers?
After answering my questions, I was asked to leave and wait for the next round.

Sometime later, I was asked to appear for the H.R interview. The interviewer asked me the following questions.
1.      Why Tech Mahindra when any other company can provide you whatever we have to offer you?
2.      Did you know about Tech Mahindra before the placement drive?

It was a real short interview. The results were declared a few hours later and luckily I was among the selected few. Frankly, hearing my name in the list was one of the most memorable things that have happened to me.
All the best to every reader of this blog. Hope you all get through to great companies.

IBM Placement Experience

Selection Criteria: Minimum of 70% in B.Tech.
Selection Procedure:
1. Written Test
2. Technical Interview
3. HR Interview

Written test:
No. Of Questions: 55
Time Limit: 1 hour

The test is basically very simple. It consists of 4 sections
1. Verbal Ability
2. Mathematical Ability
3. Miscellaneous Questions
4. Computer Fundamentals

Verbal Ability:
Simplest than any one could imagine. It consists of three types of questions
1. Articles
2. Preposition
3. Comprehension

It consists of 10 Questions to be completed in 10 minutes. They gave simple sentences and asked to fill appropriate articles and prepositions. The comprehension is about Data and Information and relation between them. What is needed to crack this section is simple practice of reading?

Mathematical Ability:
It consists of 25 questions and time to be taken is 30 minutes. Questions are like + is replaced by * , * is replaced by -, - is replaced by /, / is replaced by + then what is the value of the expression 24/2+7*3-5*4 ( The Expression is not exact I have given it just as an example there are nearly 5 questions like this )

If $ = 1 and * = 0, A number system consisting of just these two digits and all the higher numbers are represented using only these two digits $ and *. The value of $ will be doubled on going right side in the number. Then given questions like
$**$ : $**( $** X $**$ - $*$ ) = ?

What is the GCD of $$**$ and $$$**$ and questions based on simple addition and multiplication of these numbers. 5 questions of this type are given.
Hint: If you have idea on fundamentals you can easily find they are nothing but binary numbers.

Direction problems to find out distance etc., they are 5 in number.
Questions test basic level of understanding and grip on fundamentals. Cracking this Section is easy if you brush up your basics on mathematics.

Miscellaneous Questions:
This is fun section and very simple. Questions are 10 in numbers are time to take is 10 minutes. Questions consist of Data Recognition of very simple kind. They will give out 4 numbers like

1. 34323333 2. 34323333 3. 34323333 4. 34332333
Then options are given to choose between A, B, C, D. A if 1 and 2 are alike, B if 123 are alike and in the similar manner.

They also gave 4 English words whose spellings are similar as the above numbers and options are similar to the above questions. 5 of this kind of questions are given.

Second kind of questions in this section are about data sufficiency and hypothesis and assumptions type of questions. Number of questions of this kind of questions are 5.
Expression: L > M
Statement 1: L2 = 81
Statement 2: M3=1331

Can we judge the above expression based on the given statements.
Questions are similar and 5 in number.
Cracking this section is simply being cool and keeping calm. Just think and you will crack this very easily. You don t need big big calculations.

Computer Fundamentals
This section consists of 10 questions to be completed in 10 minutes. Questions are based on C, Unix, file permissions, etc., this section is easy computer students but quite hard for other branch students. It just consists of 1 or 2 C questions. All the remaining are also including General Knowledge regarding computer also. One question is which the World s Fastest Super Computer is?
http://www.ChetanaSinterview.com
Almost 50% percentages of students are able to cross this section. I was one of them. Total 322 students are able to crack this section. Out of all those 120 students are interviewed on the same day when the test is conducted. The interview for remaining students is on the next day. I was on the first day list.

Interviews started at 3:45 PM after pre-placement talk of IBM people. The demo is very nice.

Technical Interview:
It is a very light technical interview, but all the things happened is just a sort of HR interview. Keep in mind that, most of the questions are just a result of my previous answer. The questions are:

IBM Interview Question: Tell me about yourself.
A normal beginning questions in almost all the interviews, as I already know that this would be the first question, at least it s the most probable first question, I prepared well for this. I started, of course I didn’t say any lies, and still I feel embraced to say that but didn’t let it out. Answer goes like, I m a good communicator, I participated in paper presentations, debates, quizzes and seminars, .... I won so and so prizes, I initiated this, etc., etc.,

IBM Interview Question: What do you know about IBM?
IBM Interview Question: Why do you want to join IBM?
If you say so (I have just praised a lot)

IBM Interview Question: Any one can prepare such information in just 2 days. You have also done the same and you are saying as if you always wanted to join in IBM since you born. Haven t you?
I said No sort of answer, of course not this short.

IBM Interview Question: IBM needs people those who are genuine, sincere, and frank, not liars like you tell me frank If you lied, I will not consider it, as you finally told the truth and I will select you. What do you have to say for that?
I didn’t change my stand even then.

IBM Interview Question: You are a mechanical engineer and you want to come to IT then why you have taken mechanical, you should have taken CSE or CSIT?
I said that my parents insisted me to join in this branch as we had some relatives have been earned a lot after taking MECHANICAL.

IBM Interview Question: So you can t make other people agree with your point of view, are you so weak? You said that you are a good communicator?
I said we have given a minimum respect to those who are spending lots of money on us and to those who gave birth. (Infact I couldn’t get any word to put in place of respect and he handed me the word.)

IBM Interview Question: So you are not doing B.Tech Mechanical whole heartedly. Are you?
No sir. I don t think I could have managed to get a percentage of 77 if I didn’t do this whole heartedly. Even I have been doing some mechanical related projects and paper presentations also. I don t agree with you if you say so. (After saying this I was afraid if he may get anger as I said in some rash manner. But he just ignored with just a disgusted look and proceeded.)

IBM Interview Question: What are the projects you have been doing?
I explained about my solar desalinator and distillator and solar tracker I was doing at the time of selections, of course I stopped doing later.

IBM Interview Question: What is the relevance of your project and mechanical engineering?
I explained the relevance.

IBM Interview Question: If you say that you are equally interested in your mechanical field also, why do you want to come to IT sector?
I m more interested towards IT and said there are more chances and challenges to learn.

IBM Interview Question: What are your career aspirations?
My long term objective is to become an entrepreneur. (Actually I was said not to reveal this but I thought I didn’t thought It is not so important to hide that we want to be an entrepreneur.)

IBM Interview Question: Not the long term objective, what do you want to achieve in short term i.e., right now.
I want to get a job. What I feel is those who want to be an entrepreneur should be an employee first.

IBM Interview Question: Then you do one thing, I know lots of people in BHEL, and MRF tyres, I will help you to get a job over there. You go to your branch side.
No, I m interested towards IT only. (Discussion again came to this point I feel. Let s see where it takes me to.)

IBM Interview Question: Not only interest, It s good for you. I know the field and even I worked for 15 years in the field of mechanical.
Which company you have worked in sir? (Generally this is unorthodox, to ask a question before allowed. But then I have asked already and I can t do anything except to wait. I feel that it showed my openness. What do you feel? )

IBM Interview Question: MRF tyres, so, I m telling you with the experience, don t leave your field.
No sir, I will not go that side. (I wanted to ask him why he left MRF tyres and entered into IT field. But controlled the urge and waited for the next question for him to ask. He waited a bit before asking me a question, may be he expected some what longer answer than this.)

IBM Interview Question: You are not clear, think clearly after this interview, why you lost, any way let s get into other details. Say you are in a group working on a project and you are the best performer and the remaining people are not performing well. What do you do in that scenario?
Data inadequate sir, are they interested in the project or not? Am I the leader or just a parallel to them? Answer varies accordingly. (Still Unorthodox.)

IBM Interview Question: I don t know all the details and you are not the leader. Just tell me what you are going to do?
First thing I should not do is criticizing them as this simply worsens the relations and situation. I will just find out what are the areas they are lagging behind and find out what their interests are and where they are strong and I ll try to orient the project sections towards their strengths and interests. (I think I should have added with the help of boss at the end of my answer that would have shown my concern to Team leader.)

IBM Interview Question: You are the poor performer in the group and all the remaining are excellent performers. What will you do then?
If I m a poor performer, I will be lagging in certain things and I will spot those and find out reasons for those and find out reasons for those lags and I will improve in those areas. (I should have also said that I will also take suggestions of the colleagues.)

IBM Interview Question: Again, you are not a bad performer means you are good performer, not excellent. Even then other team members are just criticizing you. What do you do?
If they are criticizing means I will definitely have things to develop at least in their view. I will ask them what my lags are and ask them to suggest for the same and I again try to develop. (I simply followed this simple principle, to show him that I want to develop my self at any cost.)

IBM Interview Question: You are given a work of 10 days and you, being fast completed the work in just 6 days, what will you do in the remaining time?
Days are left means; I was left with a lot of time to make my module better and try to learn something.

IBM Interview Question: If you look on the roads, the traffic is very, what do you propose to solve the problem?
Providing alternative routes i.e., building more flyovers.

IBM Interview Question: Flyovers and others are very time taking ones to construct, tell me instant solutions.
(I ran out of ideas.)

IBM Interview Question: If you look at the manhole covers, why do you find them only circular in shape? Why not any rectangular or square?
(This time I know the answer. I wanted to play a still unorthodox move time and waited till he asks me the next question. I showed myself as I m thinking. )

IBM Interview Question: You read thermal engineering?, Can I ask you a question?
Yes sir. (Still looked as if I m thinking for the question.)

IBM Interview Question: Diesel engines and such things?
Sure sir. (Still seemed thinking.)

IBM Interview Question: In what condition of running of an engine, I mean Overload, low load, idling or rated load, the engine consumes more power?
Over load ( Answered instantly.)

IBM Interview Question: No, it s wrong
No, sir, It s correct.

(may be he is thinking about what question to ask )
(This is the right time for me to conclude my unorthodox move) Sir, can I answer the previous question,...
May be, if we make the shape as rectangular or square, the diagonal will be longer than the side. So we get a chance to push the cover inside the hole, but for circular shape, diameter is the only dimension. So it can t be pushed into hole in any angle.

IBM Interview Question: What will you do if you are not selected?
If you don t select me, I may not get another chance to get recruited in your company so I ll get selected for another company and I ll again come for your company after 2 to 3 years with added momentum.

Thank you. You need not go back and all the best for next round.

All the time in the interview, I m very confident. He tried to put me under stress by saying that I m not fit for their company and asking me to go for other fields. Even his body language is as if he is having head ache by my words. He used to tap his forehand to show sign of distress, He used to look into vacuum, His lips curled to show a sign non acceptance, of course all that is simple acting, that is to just test us how we perform under stress. I m well prepared for any sort of interview. I manged to get through this level. All through this interview, I got a doubt whether I m in technical interview round or HR interview round as all he tested is my personality and stress coping characteristics. May be my mechanical branch didn t need to be tested technically in an interview for an IT job. The next one is HR interview round. I waited for almost 20 minutes.

HR Interview:

IBM HR Interview Question: Hello, I m Annapoorna , Good evening.
Good Evening xxx

IBM HR Interview Question: Well Mr. Sanjay, tell me about yourself.
(Same old question, should I write it again? I started the same song)

IBM HR Interview Question: Have you ever worked in teams? Like projects etc.
Yes madam, lots, I played team games like softball, etc., etc., I did that project and this project. I presented that paper and this paper with my friends. (The answer is lengthy and no need to be typed.)

IBM HR Interview Question: What is molecular manufacturing? (That is the topic of my paper.)
I explained using the water bottle on the table, how it differs from the conventional manufacturing

IBM HR Interview Question: Good. Do you watch movies?
Yes, I watch movies, but from one or two months I m not seeing any movies and I purely concentrated on improving my communication skills and personality development to get selected in a company, I read books. (I was told before the interview by those who are already interviewed by that madam, that she is asking movie reviews, so purposefully I diverted the topic.)

IBM HR Interview Question: So you read books. What books you read?
I mainly concentrated on personality oriented books only. I read How to win friends and Influence People, You Can Win, How to speak Quickly and Effectively etc., The book I like most is How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. (Again, the only book I remembered is that one, so I bring the topic on to that book only.)

IBM HR Interview Question: What are the techniques you learned from that book?
Never Criticizing People, Being a Good listener, Appreciating People when needed,...... (I told lot more techniques.)

IBM HR Interview Question: People say that Listening is a Passive mode of learning, why do you say that it should be learned?
(I explained the importance of listening.)

IBM HR Interview Question: If you are selected in our company, do you have any problem to relocate from your original place?
No, I can work any where.

IBM HR Interview Question: Do you have any problem to go for other countries?
Certainly not, madam, Infact I don t have any problems of cold or any other things, I m adaptable to new place. To say it in other words, I love doing that.

IBM HR Interview Question: Well, that s all, do you have any questions to ask?
You are recruiting people from mechanical engineering branch. Do they have any specific work to do, because you can get well learned people of some Programming languages, which you need from computer branches?

IBM HR Interview Question: No, Sanjay, we actually need more in numbers, which we are not getting from just those branches. that s the reason we are recruiting from mechanical branch also.
What sort of work we are assigned to do when we join?

IBM HR Interview Question: You will have to undergo a training program of 6 weeks. Then you will be allotted to work.
No madam, I m asking about the nature of work, after the training.

IBM HR Interview Question: You will be doing coding at the beginning, so you are going be code writers, that is you will be converting the code given to you as a program.
That s all madam, I don t have any more questions.

IBM HR Interview Question: So, Thank You Mr. Sanjay, you may leave, All the best.
Thank you madam.

My interview was completed early at nearly 4:30 PM, but we had to wait till 8 '0 clock as other interviews were going on. Finally I was selected.

Mahindra-Satyam Placement Experience

www.careerinfoline.com is a mentorship forum, where one can get access to professionals from various domains. Also visit to see more interview experience, interview questions and placement papers.

Hi Friends
I am pursuing my B.Tech in Electronics from Hyderabad. I recently got selected in Satyam during one of their off-campus drives. The grandness of this affair can be seen with the numbers associated.

Participating Colleges – More than 20
Students appearing for written Exam – Over 4000
Students clearing written exam - Around 300
Final selections post interviews – Only 116

Just doing some basic math shows that a student appearing for the test has just a 2% chance of clearing the interview. I really feel privileged to be among those 2% and not among the 98%.
Learning from others experiences helped me prepare myself for this process. I hope my experience is of any help for some of you.

Written Test
The written test was divided in two parts:
1. Reasoning Section- 10 questions
2. Aptitude Section- 5 questions
Fifteen questions to be attempted in 30 minutes. Each question carried 1 mark and ¼ was deducted for each incorrect answer. Though the paper was not so tough but it was time consuming. My advice is to scan the paper initially and try to attempt the simpler questions first.
Though I don’t remember all the questions, but would like to tell you about some topics from which questions were asked.
1. Number Systems (Binary, Decimal)
2. Number Series: What number will follow the given set of numbers
3. Time and Work
4. Speed, Distance & Time
5. Profit & Loss
6. Simple Interest & Compound Interest
7. Permutations & Combinations
8. Problems based on shapes and orientations
9. Logical deductions
10. Reading Comprehension
11. Data Interpretation: Line Graphs, Bar Charts, Pie Charts

You can follow R.S Aggarwal for questions related to aptitude. You can also try tests which are available online @ www.careerinfoline.com for your preparation.

My take on this test is that the company generally tests our aptitude skills along with our time management skills. What matters is not the number of questions answered, but the number of questions answered correctly. So even if you know five out of fifteen perfectly, then just answer five questions. As a matter of fact, I answered nine of them and I was confident on five questions and the remaining four were from reasoning.
Resume & Essay Writing

All the students who cleared the written test were given a resume form. The form required us to fill details like College, Schooling, Marks in X, XII, semesters (details of Backlogs if any). The company generally verifies the information from the college authorities so don’t try to make any numbers on your own. You will definitely get caught and the implications will be humungous.
They also asked us to write an essay (less than 300 words) in 10 mins.
Interview
The interview was for around half an hour. It was more of an HR interview.
Me: May I come in sir?
Satyam HR: come in please. Take your seat. Tell me something about yourself?
Me: Answered it confidently.
CareerInfoline Word of Advice: Please prepare for this question well. This is generally an ice-breaker question and here you get a chance to take the interview in whatever direction you want to take. E.G. if you have interest in sports put more emphasis on sports. If you have interest in studies talk more about the projects you have done.

While I was busy answering the about yourself question, the HR was going through my essay. He read it completely and started asking questions from that. I tried to frame an answer to his questions, though he was not satisfied with my first attempt so I tried to convince him by giving an example. I feel after that the person was satisfied with my response.

Satyam HR: Tell me something about your family?
Me: Answered it well.

Strangely in between my interview the HR started asking me some technical questions. The questions were really basic and I was able to answer them correctly. I was even able to elaborate some with practical examples.

Satyam HR: The next area was extra-curricular activities. The HR wanted to know more about what I have done in these activities.
Me: I was expecting this question and was well prepared with my answer.

Satyam HR: Do you have any questions?
Me: Asked one question about the company.

Finally the results were out and I was among the one of the selected people.
